The aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge to enable students to understand a wide range of possibilities of applying project management concept both in research activities and in practice. Topics to be covered include: 

  1. Introduction to the project management
  2. Defining the context of project management implementation 
  3. The importance and role of strategy in the context of project management 
  4.  Role and importance of project manager and appropriate project organizational structure
  5. Project preparation and implementation (project initiation; project planning; determining project goals; developing project Gantt charts; defining project roles and responsibilities; determining project parameters and indicators; developing project budgets; optimizing project resources; identifying and assessing risks within the project)
  6. Monitoring and completion of project implementation 
  7. Presentation of project proposals prepared by students during the exercises and their analysis

Students will also, in teams, gain experience of preparing a sample project proposal.

Call for Pre-Applications - Biotechnology for the Life Sciences International graduate/masters research program, academic year 2025/2026

The Faculty of Biotechnology & Drug Development is happy to announce that the pre-application procedure is now open for students wishing to begin the graduate/research program “Biotechnology for the Life Sciences” in October 2025. Biotechnology for the Life Sciences is a research focussed program, taught entirely in English, aimed at students aiming to pursue a career in life sciences research, either in academia or industry. Notably, the first year includes two 8-week long research apprenticeships in research laboratories, while the entire second year is dedicated to an in depth original research project. Interested students should download and complete the pre-application form and submit it to us, along with the other documents requested in it, to us by email (life.sci@biotech.uniri.hr) by 31st July 2023. This call is open to students from any country, and of any nationality. More information can be found in the Call for Pre-Applications. A formal online application will also be required, and details of this will be sent to students in the pre-application system at the appropriate time.
